Jonathan Berns is an AV-rated attorney and partner with Dobson, Goldberg, Berns & Rich, LLP. In 1990, Mr. Berns earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University, cum laude, in English. In 1993, he obtained his law degree from Washington University School of Law where he was an Associate Editor on the Washington University Law Quarterly.
Throughout his career, Mr. Berns has primarily devoted his practice to the representation of individuals in employment, sexual harassment, civil rights, class action and other civil litigation. He has litigated well over 100 employment cases in the federal and state courts, has successfully tried multiple cases to a verdict, and successfully argued before state and federal courts of appeals. Mr. Berns is also frequently retained to provide guidance and assistance to individuals in a non-litigation setting to resolve or address issues or disputes with the individuals' employers and/or former employers, including negotiation of employment contracts, severance and separation agreements, and non-compete agreements.
Mr. Berns works as an Adjunct Professor at the Washington University School of Law where he teaches Pre-Trial Litigation. He has also served as the Chairman of the Labor and Employment Law Section of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis and is currently the President of the St. Louis Chapter of the National Employment Lawyers Association. He also serves on the Amicus Committee for the National Employment Lawyers Association. Mr. Berns is often asked to speak and write at legal seminars and conferences about employment law and employment litigation. He is licensed to practice in Missouri, Illinois, and multiple federal courts. He is an active member of the National Employment Lawyers Association, Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys, and Missouri Bar Association.
